Netflix has announced the release of an exclusive documentary chronicling the career and cultural impact of legendary British band Depeche Mode. Titled Mode, the documentary is set to premiere in March 2025 and will offer fans and newcomers an in-depth look at the band’s four-decade-long journey through interviews, rare footage, and behind-the-scenes glimpses. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rachel Tyson, known for her work on music documentaries, the film will trace the band’s beginnings in Basildon, Essex, to their rise as pioneers in the synth-pop and electronic music scenes, as well as their ongoing influence today.

Depeche Mode’s blend of darkly evocative lyrics and electronic soundscapes revolutionized popular music in the 1980s and ’90s, capturing the mood of generations across the globe. With timeless hits such as “Enjoy the Silence,” “Personal Jesus,” and “Just Can’t Get Enough,” the band carved a niche that bridged mainstream pop and underground electronic. According to Netflix, Mode will explore both the band’s creative process and the enduring friendship between members Dave Gahan and Martin Gore, who, despite personal and professional challenges, continue to create and perform music.

The documentary will also delve into the cultural movements that Depeche Mode helped shape, highlighting how they influenced everything from fashion to attitudes about technology in music. In addition to interviews with band members, Mode will feature commentary from fellow musicians, producers, and industry experts who have been impacted by the band’s legacy. As excitement builds for its March 2025 release, Mode is anticipated to provide an intimate portrait of Depeche Mode’s timeless appeal and ever-evolving artistry, offering fans a front-row seat to music history.
